Now its past noon on Sunday, and I am busy trying to get Community Builder installed on the site. CB will gives us the tools we need to assist in building the online membership, allowing online purchase of memberships, allow online sharing of equipment between registered paid members, and give us a system where we can find other technicians who have experience that we can use to do our jobs, when we need the help.
Before attempting to install CB, from my own experience, I have decided to incorporate a backup system designed to work within Joomla! to back up the site, in case it all goes bad during the CB installation (it happens).
Backups are a good idea regardless, on any production web site. In cases where the site is CMS, it is really a good idea. With the dynamic content of the site, one little spike or glitch, and the entire system crashes, leaving you unable to access the site from the outside, or administer the site from the background. I have had it happen, and trying to bring the site back to where you were without a good back up can mean rebuilding the site from dead.
So I have installed JoomlaPack, configured it, run a backup, and am now waiting for the backup to download to my local computer for storage. It appears over my wireless connection, it is about 18 minutes total download time. This means, at any point if it all goes bad and I have to do a system restore, with configure time, it is only about 30 minutes of total site downtime.
Next before installing the CB, I have to record a couple of key things from our database, ftp settings, and store them in a folder on the local drive with the backups. . . then if things do go wrong, everything I need is all in one place.
Sunday, thinking, a hamburger for lunch might be good. . .
