This has been a very big weekend for us here at tetac.org with many new changes happening. It has been a rocky road if any of you have visited the site over the weekend you might already know this.
One big goal for the weekend was to get a database with TETAC members installed so the site can access the information to provide specific services to TETAC members. On the site we have visitors who are not registered, registered site users who are not TETAC members, and TETAC members.
Each of these users has a different experience when they come here and log on to the site, as we have information that is only availiable to TETAC members themselves. Also one important factor for us on the web site team is to keep private information secure for our users.
To be able to do this, many things has happened. One is that the site is now hosted on a single leased IP address instead of sharing an IP address with several different web sites as we were doing before. Second is we are in the process of securing the site with secure socket layer, the tool that letsĀ you view the site with https in the address instead of http.
At this writing, the static IP address has just been assigned, the SSL certificates have just been installed, but the name servers around the world are still in the process of updating information for the site. Name servers are those computers that take human friendly web addresses (like tetac.org) and translate them into the IP addresses that computers use (like 67.20.67.233) which is where tetac.org has its new home.
Another key change is that the forum has been moved inside the tetac.org site itself. This way, there is only one web address to remember, and we can share the log in information between systems, so the user only has to go to one place, log on once, and have full use of all the services.
Yet another upcoming change that all of this work has made possible is the ability to register and pay for your TETAC membership on the website with a PayPal checkout. This is still in process as we are waiting for all the servers to catch up, but early this week it should all be in place.
During this time, let me thank you for your patience as we work. I know the site will be online and offline, the log in may not work, and you might experience some unstable conditions, or slow responses. This will all clear up as we move along.
Hope you had a great weekend!!
